Microsoft announced the Kin One and Kin Two yesterday. The phones will be only found on the Verizon (US) network to begin, and then making its way to Vodaphone networks in Spain, the UK, Germany and Italy. It is worth remembering that Vodaphone has a healthy interest in Verizon Wireless. Nothing in Canada at present, which is fairly typical as far as wireless product introduction goes (the Canadian iPhone launched a year after the US). Bell and Microsoft have had a very good relationship in the past, so Bell Mobility would seem as likely a candidate as any to offer the devices in the future.

Back to our hosting discussion…

There are a number of hosting options, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. I am going to be minimalist with this – so don’t get upset. There are numerous books and dozens of in-depth research reports from the likes of Gartner, IDC and Tier1 Research that cover it off. I am trying to do this justice in the context of a blog, so I am going to broad brush stroke it and try to focus on the big picture. This post will essentially serve as a back drop for upcoming posts.

This is worth reading through. This sort of thing has long been contentious in the analyst world and does merit further thought. Part of the challenge (and I am not asserting this is the case with respect to the Gartner thing) is that some vendors actively work on the ‘I am not telling you anything because I don’t trust you’ basis. While I understand the possible merits of this approach (at least I think I do. I still believe that the analyst community is an important part of the ecosystem), I find it a little hard to swallow when the same vendors often turn around and wonder why the analyst community is not paying them any attention, or why the analyst community is inaccurately representing them. Having a rock solid analyst relations program in place is a start to getting this stuff sorted out…
